Specialty Wood Supply is a supplier of high-quality unique wood products to the Carolinas and beyond. Located in Charlotte, NC on the border of SC, we specialize in milling, drying and surfacing natural edge slabs with the capacity to mill slabs up to 54 inches wide.

We stock a variety of unique natural edge slab species and wide range of sizes. Live edge pieces are typically used for table tops, conference tables, bar-tops, coffee tables, desks, shelves, etc. Each piece is truly one of a kind, expressing the natural origin of the wood.
We take extra care in keeping slabs from the same tree together, providing book-matched sets. Our lumber is sold rough sawn, surfaced flat on one or both faces and kiln, or air dried. We also stock fireplace mantles. Our 24″ wide planer is available for surfacing, to precisely flatten and finish slabs or table tops. And our 4’x8’ surfacing machine is available to flatten large surface areas. Although we don’t handle installations or build furniture, we are capable of doing custom finish work on mantles, or single wood slabs not requiring joinery.

Resource Conservation

The majority of old growth trees in residential / urban areas like Charlotte end their life as waste in landfills, buried at construction sites, ground up as mulch, burned, or cut into firewood. Unfortunately, these trees never get to be appreciated for their beauty and purpose by anyone – a waste of life.

We are passionate about resource conservation and making better use of these trees that are so often laid to waste. “Upcycling” this wood is important to us – turning them into specialty cut furniture pieces and building lumber allow these precious resources to live on for generations to appreciate.

Small sawmills like us help make a difference in preserving our natural forest areas, which are vitally important to maintain natural habitats for native flora and fauna. Every tree we mill is one less tree that must be cut from our forests and one less tree of green waste to be dumped in our landfills. At Specialty Wood Supply, we work closely with local arborists / tree services and are proud to make a difference in the local Charlotte and surrounding communities by salvaging urban timber.
